25th March outside Parliament at 11AM, to combat the new regime that Independent Midwives (IMs) will have to have PII (a type of insurance) in order to register as a midwife under the NMC. It is currently legal for IMs to practise without PII, most insurance companies will not cover IMs as there are not enough of them to make it a financially viable option. This won’t change things for NHS midwives, but may mean IMs will be unable to register if they cannot find a company that will insure them.
Me and Matti (iminmypants.tumblr.com) are going to be there, I hope to see lots of you UK supporters there and if you can’t, please share this and get the message out!
